There are many reasons to stop smoking.

Smoking is so widely studied and so many harmful effects have been proven through scientific study that they are hard to ignore. Yet year after year more people get addicted to cigarettes.

WHY?

Because they ignore the smoking facts, preferring instead to live in the moment and do what makes them feel more emotionally comfortable.

"It relaxes me."

Anything you do that creates so much potential for cancer and other smoking related diseases should be a cause of stress for you.

Every time your body goes into nicotine withdrawal and you reach for another cigarette you are in a state of stress caused by nicotine withdrawal symptoms.

There is nothing about nicotine addiction that is relaxing. Each time you take a drag on a cigarette, your heart rate increases, your blood vessels are constricted and your body is artificially stimulated to release neurotransmitters that it should be producing naturally.

Smoking is not the cure for stress - it is the cause of stress.

"I am too stressed right now and I have too many other things to do."

There is nothing more important in your life than your own health.

No matter how much you have to do, or how many people you have to help, if you do not take care of yourself you are of no use to anyone!

"I am afraid I will gain weight"

This seems to be one of the best reasons to not stop smoking that people use. Everyone is constantly being told how dangerous and unhealthy it is to be overweight.

However, the smoking facts reveal that the average weight gain on stopping smoking is about 10 pounds.

Any one of the multiple smoking effects on the body are way more dangerous that an extra ten pounds!

"I am quite healthy - My doctor says I am fine."

Time is running out. If you have not yet noticed any of the harmful smoking effects on your body you will soon.

If your doctor knows that you smoke and has not made the recommendation that you quit smoking in order to improve your health and prevent future health problems, then you need a new doctor!

The one you have doesn't really care about your health.

"I'm bored. I need something to do with my hands."

Do you realize how ridiculous this sounds?

If you smoke because you are bored then you need a life. You do not need cigarettes.

Get a hobby!

Take up knitting, start scrapbooking, learn a new musical instrument, take up photography, go square dancing, join a bird watching club - ANYTHING but reaching for a cigarette!

You can even start a website about quitting smoking, or anything else you are interested in. I can guarantee that will keep you busy!

There is no justification for using smoking as something to do with your hands when there are so many other things you could be doing that would bring you pleasure and not ruin your health or the health of those around you!
