The cigarette facts are undeniable. Smoking kills more people worldwide than all other drugs combined.

Ingredients in cigarettes are numerous and some of the chemicals contained in a cigarette are poisonous.

The tobacco companies want you to believe they have your best interest at heart, and are trying to provide you with a pleasurable smoking experience.

But the smoking facts reveal that they have not been all that up front about exactly what is in their products. It wasn't until governments forced them to reveal all the additive and other chemicals in their product that it was learned there are up to 4000 chemicals in cigarettes.

All other products need to reveal their ingredients but somehow the tobacco companies felt that they should not have to do that?

  • It is particulates that give smoke its characteristic whitish gray color. Particulates are just particles suspended in the smoke and all smoke contain particulates. Particulate matter in cigarettes is referred to as cigarette tar. When you see smoke coming off the end of a lit cigarette, it is coming from burning tar.

  • filters do not remove enough tar to make cigarettes less dangerous. Filters were added to cigarettes by the tobacco manufacturing companies to make it appear as though the filtered cigarette is safer.

  • there are many chemicals in cigarettes that are burned and released as invisible vapour and gases. You cannot see these as they are not visible as smoke but they are present none the less.

  • When you take a drag on a cigarette the internal temperature can reach as high as 900 degrees Celsius.

  • 90 percent of all the invisible gases go straight to your lungs when you inhale. From there they are distributed to the rest of your body via your blood stream.

  • over 4000 cigarette ingredients other than tobacco and paper have been identified.

  • there are about 40 known carcinogenic ingredients in cigarettes including benzene, formaldehyde, and arsenic.

  • lethal cigarette chemicals include carbon monoxide and hydrogen cyanide.

Of all the cigarette facts this is the one that is the most astounding.

If you follow the manufacturer's directions for using the cigarette the way it is intended you will be harmed. There is no way to safely smoke a cigarette.

Even when you do not smoke a cigarette you can still be harmed by the effects of environmental tobacco smoke.
