Smoking is the single greatest risk factor for bladder cancer.

Second to smoking are exposures to certain carcinogenic chemicals through work. People who work in industries where they are exposed to dyes used in hair color, painting, or tanning of leather and textiles are more likely to develop urinary bladder cancer.

Symptoms of Bladder Cancer

The symptoms of bladder cancer are almost non-existent which allows for the disease to progress undetected.

Blood in the urine, unaccompanied by pain is the most common sign.

Depending on the stage of progression of the disease there may be changes in the urinary pattern with burning or difficulty passing urine.

In developing countries the two main causes of bladder cancer are smoking and exposure to certain types of dye. If you have both of these risk factors, then your risk for bladder cancer goes up significantly.

Both the occupational exposures and smoking are preventable causes of urinary bladder cancer. Occupational exposures can be controlled through the required use of protective equipment and procedures. Cigarette smoking obviously, is much harder to control.

There are many cancers caused by smoking the carcinogenic ingredients in cigarettes.
